While the spectators basked in the sunshine over the hottest weekend this year, Leatherhead’s swimmers kept their cool in Aldershot Garrison pool at the Bracknell & Wokingham level one long course open meet.

The team clocked up 16 medals, including 9 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze as well as five national qualifying times, three club records and 28 personal best performances.

Fourteen year old Chloe Bean led the way with three gold medals for the 100m breaststroke (1:14.58), 400m freestyle (4:32.40) and 200m freestyle (2:11.12), all of which were achieved in national qualifying times.

Thirteen year old Suzanne Norman also made two NQTs in the 100m backstroke (1:09.83) and 200m backstroke (2:26.89), as well as earning gold medals for both events and bronze medals in the 100m fly (1:10.40) and 200m IM (2:35.49).

Chris Green (12y) turned in a double gold performance in the 100m breaststroke (1:16.54) and 200m breaststroke (2:46.36) and a bronze in the 50m freestyle (30.12); 11 year old Emma Brown and 12 year old Gaby Orlich both won the 50m freestyle in their respective age categories in times of 32.35 and 29.75, respectively.

Lucy Bean (12y) gained a silver medal for her performance in the 200m breaststroke (3:01.00) and a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke (1:26.88); while Lauren Parsons (17y) earned silver in the 400m freestyle (4:46.17) and Iona Doig (15y) a bronze in the same event (5:13.51).
