Twickenham’s Simon Low ignored the pain of a fractured leg to finish 17th in the fourth round of the British 125cc Championship at Cadwell Park on Sunday.

The 22-year-old climbed from 25th - on the starting grid - to 14th, before a collision with another rider coming out of the hairpin cracked his fibia and put him in the gravel.

The former Orleans Park School student rejoined the race to recover ten places, but was unable to secure a points finished as the laps ran out.

However, he left Lincolnshire delighted to have just finished the race after the engine seizures of Thruxton and Oulton Park.

“I’m really happy with how the weekend's gone. The speed is really good now and we were consistently in the top ten through the speedtraps I was able to get quicker and quicker all weekend,” he said.

“The new clutch we fitted was absolutely superb and allowed me to make an even better start than usual, so when I was up to 14th on the first lap things were looking really good.

“Coming out of the hairpin the bike highsided me and how I stayed on I'll never know.

“I knew something had happened to my leg straightaway and so was in a lot of pain for the rest of the race, but I dug deep and kept picking them off one by one.

“To finish 17th after what happened on the first lap is pleasing, but 12th place could have been on the cards.

“It has to have been the hardest race I've ever had, but luckily the bone is only cracked rather than broken. We've got a good break before the next round, so we should be 100 per cent for then.”

Low and his Team Shop4bikers/Dutch-2-UK Racing Honda, travel to Mallory Park at the end of June for the fifth round.
