Middlesex man Dan Housego is hoping concentrating on the simple things in life can help him cash-in on a purple patch with the bat this summer.

The 20-year-old hit 38 on Saturday as Twickenham humbled Stanmore in the Middlesex County League Premier Division by 111 runs to register their first ever win at that level.

It took the Reading-born batsman’s haul to 594 runs in 14 days as he followed up a century on the green seven days earlier, with two half-centuries against Warwickshire’s second string for his county paymasters.

Housego had said at the start of the season only an average of 60-plus would see him earn a chance in the Panthers’ first 11.

But the right-hander, in the last year of his current contract at Lord’s, is just concentrating on keeping his rich vein of form on track and hoping his future looks after itself.

“I’ve hit so many balls over the winter, so it is pleasing to see things come together. I said I needed to average 60, so hopefully I’ll get a chance soon,” he said.

“Things have gone pretty well for me recently and I’m just trying to keep things as simple as possible.

“I’d love the run to continue for as a long as possible, and that is really all I’m worrying about. I couldn’t be happier with how things have gone it is just a case of keeping it going.”

Twickenham’s win at the weekend was built on overseas opener Tom Meredith’s 102 and finished off by inspired bowling from Fawad Mullahzadah (5-50), his brother Rashid (2-16) and Maaz Haffeji (3-37).

Neighbours Richmond failed to win a game in the top flight last season, as they registered just 17 league points in making a swift return to Division Two having won promotion the previous campaign.

Skipper Carlos Nunes’ men already have 14 in their last two matches to sit fourth in the table, and Housego believes it is no more than the side deserves.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed playing the last three games and Twickenham are a good bunch of lads,” he added.

“We should have won the previous week and I think the last two games show we have the potential to be a strong side.”
