Veteran Donna Fraser put on her spikes for the first time since August as she helped Croydon Harriers' women to victory in their Senior Division Three match at Croydon Arena on Saturday.

The 37 year-old answered the call from coach Mike Fleet to help out the side and won the B-string 100m in 12.7 seconds.

She then combined with Joscelynn Hopeson, who won the A-string 100m and 200m, Charlette Campbell and Amy Dowsett to win the 100m relay.

"I did tell Mike I would turn out for Croydon if I was needed," said the three-time Olympian who also runs in the veteran's league tonight.

"I haven't even put spikes on since August though.

"All I have been doing is 20 minute runs in the morning and going to the gym to work on general fitness, so I am still recovering - my hamstrings and shoulder blades are so sore.

"I thoroughly enjoyed it though and it was fun to be part of a team and great to see the girls so happy because we won which we haven't done for a long time I think."

Fraser retired from international racing after the Crystal Palace grand prix nine months ago but, as the outdoor season gets into full swing, she insists she doesn't miss the international circuit.

"Just thinking about 400m makes me feel so sick as I just think about all the pain," she said.

"I remember what I used to go through at that standard and the whole pressure side of it comes back and I start to get nervous.

"I don't miss it and just watching it on television I think about how they must be feeling.

"Saturday was just having fun and I think more athletes should try and do meetings like this when they can, to remind them why they got into the sport."

Hopeson has only just returned to racing after more than a year out with injury and Fraser tipped her for big things.

"It's good to see her back on the track and she has been out for a while," she said.

"She's doing it the right way too by competing in the small meets rather than throwing herself in at the deep end on the international circuit.

"Anyone can do well in this sport so long as they believe in themselves."
