Ashford endured mixed fortunes in all competitions last week, saving their best form for the Middlesex County Bowling Association Bannerette.

FORDBRIDGE LEAGUE MIXED WOODTHORPE 6 pts v ASHFORD 4pts This was a four mixed triples league match. Both teams finished winning two triples each, with Woodthorpe getting the 2 bonus points for acheiving the highest total score. Ashfords' highest scorers were B.Cooper, A.Blair, C.Tanner who won 19 - 18.

Thu 20th May Middlesex County Bowling Association Bannerette ASHFORD 60 v M.C.B.A. 49 M.C.B.A. kindly granted Ashford a bannerette game to clebrate Ashfords' 92nd season. The match consisted of three rinks and produced some good bowling from both sides. Ashford emerged as winners with two winning rinks and one losing rink.

Ashford Bowling Club began as a mens only club in 1918 and it was not until 1935 that ladies were allowed to bowl and form their own section. Alot has changed since then and these days most of the matches played are mixed games, although there are still a few mens and ladies games. The club has played in Woodthorpe Road since it began. New and experienced bowlers are always welcome.

Sat 22nd May M.C.W.B.A. DOUBLE RINK ASHFORD v SUNBURY The Ashford Ladies were defeated by Sunbury. The game at Sunbury was won by Ashford who gained a four shot advantage. However the joy was soon to be diminished when the result at Ashford came through that Sunbury had won by twelve shots to win the tie overall.

MIXED MATCH B.A. CONCORDE 96 v ASHFORD 48 The afternoon mixed game began with the teams being very closely matched and half way through neither side had a clear cut advantage. Unfortunately for Ashford the collapse was just about to start with each of the Ashford rinks dropping shots and struggling to keep up with their opponents. The match finished with BA Concorde winning all four rinks played.

Sun 23rd May BOWLS ENGLAND MENS TWO FOURS COMPETITION ASHFORD v SUNBURY Now it was the turn of the Ashford and Sunbury men to play Sunbury. Ashford won the first rink to finish by seven shots, whilst on the second rink Sunbury had a seven shot lead which meant that the game was finely balanced with a few ends remaining. Ashford fought back bravely trying to reduce the deficit by enough to win overall. They were successful in levelling their score with just one end to play, and then won the final end by three shots to claim an overall ten shot victory.

MIXED MATCH HOUNSLOW CONSERVATIVES 38 v ASHFORD 80 Ashford won the final game of the week away at Hounslow. Ashford won all four triples with the highest score going to A.Blair, J.Sayers, N.Addecott with a 25 - 9 winning margin.
