The 30,000-strong field in the 30th running of the London Marathon on Sunday will include many hundreds of local club athletes.

Wimbledon Windmilers have about 50 runners in action.

Among the elite group of ever-presents – those who have completed all 29 marathons – are Jeffrey Gordon, from Thames Hare & Hounds, and Mike Peace, from Ranelagh, who will again be competing.

Kingston & Polytecnic, Belgrave, Herne Hill, Hercules Wimbledon, Clapham Chasers, Epsom & Ewell, Elmbridge Road Runners, 26.2 Road Running Club, Collingwood AC, Wimbledon Windmilers, Sutton Runners, St Mary’s Richmond, Tadworth AC, Walton AC, Epsom Allsorts, Epsom Oddballs, Stragglers, Sheen Shufflers, Barnes Runners, Serpentine and West 4 Harriers will all have runners on the course.

Hampton schoolteacher Dave Clarke, who won the Stockholm Marathon in 1989 in an impressive 2:13:34, is also in the field.

Meanwhile, more than 200 youngsters from Kingston, Sutton, Merton, Richmond and Wandsworth will be competing in the Virgin London Mini Marathon.

However, two of Sutton’s leading runners, Grace O’Leary and Tom Holden, are not in their borough teams because they were unable to make their trials last month.

The pair have gained permission to compete for the south-east team against their Sutton schoolmates.
