Raynes Park's Evelina Belevich, Carshalton’s Taylor McArdle and Wallington-based Eleanor Cross have enjoyed a tennis master-class with former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash as the race to become a Barclays Ball Kid reached the final stage.

The 12-year-old Tiffin Girls School pupil was among 119 youngsters attending the Barclays Ball Kids National Trials at Westway Sports Centre in London, with the best 30 set to be ball kids at the ATP World Tour Finals in November.

Belevich was tested on her agility, endurance, co-ordination, ball skills, balance, speed and team work as Cash and Andy Murray’s former coach Mark Petchey ran the rule over her sporting prowess.

And Belevich, ranked in the top 200 U14 players in the country, admitted it would be a dream come true to share the court with the likes of Murray, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at the O2 in November.

“It was a really exciting day and I had a lot of fun,” said Belevich.

“I really tested myself and pushed myself to the limit. I think it would be a fantastic opportunity to go to the ATP finals and to be just to be a couple of metres away from the players.

“I would most like to see Roger Federer because he is such a great player and has been number one for a long time.

“I think I would be nervous but I would be excited too.”

Cross, who like McArdle plays at Sutton Tennis Academy, added: “I would like to be a ball girl for Andy Murray.

“He is my favourite because he is British and he never gives up.”

The nationwide Barclays Ball Kids search began last November with Belevich qualifying on home turf at the Sutton Tennis Academy last month.

Cash, who along with Petchey will have a hand in selecting the lucky winners, believes Belevich did everything she could to be part of the lucky 30 on November 21.

Cash said: “All the kids showed a great attitude and it will undoubtedly be a difficult decision to choose the winners.

"But it is a fantastic opportunity for the winners to go down to the O2 and get to experience what will be a great week for them all.”
