Ernest Bevin College pupil Adam Hoshal won gold at the 2010 British Schools Judo National Championships in Sheffield, writes Mark Pickering.

At the English Institute of Sports venue Hoshal won the top honour in the U81kg category for years 12-13.

"It was a fantastic feeling." he said. "The gold medal fight against Daniel Coutakis was tough, but I've fought him before so I had an idea of what to expect."

The powerful fighter has become one of the hottest prospects at EB Phoenix Judo Club, who are members of the British Judo Association.

Hoshal trains under some of the sport's top names, including Winston Gordon, who competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

"Winston, Darren Hawney and Eric Bonti all helped me to win the gold medal," said Hoshal.

"I've been doing a lot of tournaments recently and everything I'm doing is working towards my ambition of getting into the international squad."

The British Judo Association is the National Governing Body for the Olympic Sport of judo in Great Britain.
