There were nearly as many marshals as runners for the Kingston 5km parkrun on Saturday.

But there was still a course record on the newest of the national network of parkrun events, held along the Thames Towpath for the fifth time.

Wilmslow Running Club’s Jim Pendrill, making his event debut, won in 17 minutes dead, 10 seconds clear of Stragglers’ Danny Norman. Sudbury Court’s Colin Goulding was third (18:42).

Thames Turbo’s over-45 veteran Becky Thurtell was first woman (23:38), three minutes clear of unattached runner Rebecca Connelley.

A mob match between Stragglers and Ranelagh swelled the field in Richmond Park to 269 runners.

In sunny conditions, half of the top 40 finishers posted personal bests, with James Flood, of Stragglers, taking half-a-minute off his mark to win in 16:10.

Debutant Dave Alcock, of Victoria Park & Tower Hamlet, was second (16:27), with Stragglers’ Graham Brook third (16:30).

Teenager Ralph Street was first Ranelagh finisher in fourth (16:40) with Thames Hare & Hounds’ Toby Pearson fifth (16:55).

Ranelagh’s over 45 veteran Marie Synnott-Wells posted the top age-graded performance in finishing third in the women’s race (19:33) behind West 4’s Anna Critchlow (19:09) and Isobel Rea (19:19).

Scoring 35-a-side in the mob match, Ranelagh won by just eight points.

Clapham Chasers’ James Ellis clocked a personal best time 15:58 in winning the Bushy Park race for the second time.

He took 21 seconds off his previous best to beat Belgrave’s Richard Ward (16:01), Richard Stannard (16:03) and Will Cockerell (16:05). Elmbridge Road Runners’ Sean Renfer was fifth in 16:17.

Women’s winner was St Mary’s runner Rose-Anne Galligan (16:42) ahead of City of Norwich teenager Dannielle Nimmock (17:30).

Hercules Wimbledon veteran Peter Lee sliced seven seconds off his course best to win on Wimbledon Common (17:45).

Serpentine’s Stuart Webber (17:57) was second, with Herne Hill’s 14-year-old Lascelles Hussey third (18:02).

In the women’s race, Wimbledon Windmilers’ Lisa Wood (21:25) finished ahead of Thames Hare & Hounds’ Kate Symons (21:30) and unattached Geraldine Hellings (21:32).

Belgrave’s Matthew Morgan (17:03) won the Roundshaw Woods parkrun in from Striders of Croydon’s Justin Macenhill (17:19) and Croydon Harriers’ Peter Chambers (17:29).

Cardiff’s Rowan Axe, won on his Banstead Woods debut (16:33) from South London Harriers’ Chris Phelan (17:34) and Ian Kitching (18:00).

Aimee Billington, of 26.2 Road Runners’ Club, was first woman in a personal best 20:06.
