Herne Hill Harriers’ Brian Wilder gained a comfortable victory in the Kingston Breakfast 16-mile road race which started and finished in the town centre on Sunday.

Wilder clocked one hour, 27 minutes, 24 seconds to finish 50 seconds clear of Thames Hare & Hounds’ Andrew McNamara.

Belgrave Harriers’ Malachi Byansi was third (1:32:23).

Samantha Amend, also of Belgrave, set a blistering pace from the start gun to win the women’s race (1:38:48), with Thames Hare & Hounds veteran Liz Stavreski second (1:46:00) and Isobel Rea, of West 4 Harriers, third (1:49:11).

More than 1,600 runners completed the 16-mile race with a further 1,351 runners in the 8.2-mile event.

Neil Chisholm, of Thames Hare & Hounds’ (44:21) broke away from the chasing pack to win the shorter race from Aldershot’s James Savage (45:08), Paul Bond, of Milton Keynes (45:34), and Herne Hill’s Rajdave Singh (45:52).

Stragglers’ Roy Reeder was first veteran in eighth place (48:18).

South African runner Kate Mapham, of Ful-on-Tri won the women’s race in 51:12.

Next were Aldershot’s Annabel Levene (52:31), Bristol & West’s Nathalie Young (52:49), Thames Hare & Hounds’ Emily Hogg (53:00) and unattached runner Alice Wiltshire (53:13).

John Lunt, director of race organisers Human Race, said: “It was fantastic to see so many runners out on this stunning morning.

“The Kingston Breakfast Run has grown from strength to strength.”

The event also raised £30,000 for Leukeamia Research.
