Hersham show jumper Sam Hutton took two titles in the space of 24-hours at the British Open in Birmingham last week.

The 20-year-old claimed the World Class Development U23 Pathfinder on Wednesday riding eight-year-old gelding Astral 57, before claiming the Rising Stars (PCA Futura) Championship with the same horse on Thursday.

Hutton, based with former Olympic show jumper Tony Newbery in Southampton, came from final draw to win the Rising Stars PCA title on Astral.

The success built on a series of strong results in qualifiers throughout the Winter Premier season, which saw him finish top of the U23 WCD qualifying points table with Astral.

Hutton, who also took nine-year-old chestnut mare Olympia III to a fifth place finish in the Rising Stars, said: “Astral was amazing, this was his first performance at the NEC and on such a big stage and it did not faze him at all, he is a real star.

“I was delighted with the performances of both these very talented horses. I am very lucky to have such supportive owners, an exceptional coach in Tony and the back up of the World Class Development Programme.

“I am looking forward to competing both horses in the Young Rider European Trials at the end of this month.”
