Wimbledon-based Jazzi Plews, Lila Simpson and Lana Rush were given star treatment on a trip to Paris.

The trio, members of the AEGON Future Stars programme, rubbed shoulders with French tennis star Amelie Mauresmo during their trip to the GDF Suez Open.

Jazzi, 11, Lila, 12, and Lana, 13, watched a full day of tennis from the best seats in the house as well as receiving the full hospitality experience at the GDF Suez player village before meeting the former world number one and Wimbledon champion.

Plews said: “They were the best seats in the house and if any of the players went for an ace we were their sitting target and had to dodge out of the way of the balls.

“Aftewards we wewent back to the hospitality area where there was a buffet and a presentation with some of the French players, which is when we met Amelie Mauresmo. She has always been one of my all time favourite tennis players so I was very excited when we had our picture taken with her.”

“One of the things I learnt is that the girls in the tournament could hit the ball with amazing pace, but they also hardly ever hit the net. Since being back from Paris I have been trying to work on that area of my game.

“I regularly compete for Great Britain and I will definitely be taking all the things I have learnt in Paris to my tournaments from now on.”

Simspson said: “Overall the trip was really good and the highlight was meeting Amelie Mauresmo and watching all of those great players.

“The whole experience has inspired me to keep training hard and playing the sport I love.”

Rush said: “I had such a great time in Paris and thanks to SportsAid and GDF Suez for the opportunity. It was really good fun seeing what happens behind the scenes at a big tournament and we were lucky to see some exciting matches between some great players.”
