Croydon Harrier’s cross-country runners got their season back on track on Saturday with a fourth place finish at the Hercules Wimbledon inter-club race, writes Matthew Kiernan.
Despite the five-and-a-half mile Wimbledon Common course resembling a quagmire, David Brown’s good form continued at apace as he crossed the line in 36 minutes and 32 seconds for 12th position.
Colin Oxlade (36.37, 13th) followed soon after, with Martin Rowe (37.17, 17th) and Julian Dillow (28th, 39.15) also in close quarters.
Andy Del Nevo (40.04, 33rd), Keith Brown (43.36, 51st), Norman Hemming (43.39, 52nd) and Miriam De’Souza (50.28, 75th) made up the rest of scoring team.
There was also non-scoring support from Eric Campbell (52.25, 80th), who netted the M50 silver medal in the process.
Such an encouraging performance bodes well for the South of England cross-country championships at Parliament Hill in a fortnight’s time.
