Continuing a tradition that started in 1966, this year's Epsom College annual Inter-House Cross Country Championships were run last week on Epsom Downs.

A highlight of the College's sporting calendar, the annual snake-like procession of the entire school making its way up to the famous landmark racecourse is very much part of Epsom's heritage.

Archive records show that Epsom College pupils have taken part in paperchases and other races on the Downs for well over 100 years.

A blustery but sunny Thursday afternoon saw boys and girls from all 12 Houses compete for both House awards and individual honours, with some impressive new school records achieved.

As always, the races were run with great passion and spirit.

Winner of the senior boys' event was Joe Toomey in a time of 21.25 minutes.

Sam McConnell took the intermediate boys' title in 21.48 minutes, while the junior boys' event was won by William Goldberg in a new school record time of 13.47 minutes.

The senior girls' winner was Francesca Currie in 22.57 minutes, Roison Monaghan took the intermediate girls' title in 11.49 minutes, while a new school record was also set in the junior girls' race, with Tara Dolan leading the field home in 12.23 minutes.

The overall winning House in the boy's competition was Fayrer, which won the senior and intermediate sections, with Propert heading the rankings in the junior boys' race.

Raven took the senior girls' competition and Rosebery the intermediate and junior girls' events. There is no overall winning girls' House award as White House is sixth form only and cannot field a team in all three races.
