Streatham Redskins pulled off another transfer coup at the weekend by signing Wightlink Raiders forward Kent Johnson.

Head Coach Barry Spours has been busy in recent weeks trying to improve his squad, however the signing of Johnson has surprised a number of supporters.

The centre has scored goals wherever he has played, including a long spell at Solent and more briefly Oxford City Stars.

Operating on the Raiders first line and amongst their top points scorers this year, Johnson has been in good form.

Sadly a change in training schedule meant he was unable to commit the extra time needed for the Raiders campaign and as a result left the club by mutual consent.

“I had a couple of other offers from different clubs, however Streatham slotted in with my other commitments and were the obvious choice,” said Johnson.

“I trained with the team and found it enjoyable and I had heard good things from various sources about the coach and his ethos”

Johnson was thrown in at the deep end on Sunday in the game against Invicta Dynamos and, despite the side going down 4-0, he was relatively pleased with his Redskins debut: “It went as well as could be expected with a new team against the league leaders,” he said.

“I probably need a little time to gel on a line and return to match fitness. I had a couple of good chances which I may have scored on another day”

Johnson slotted in on the second line with lively winger Liam Rasmussen and Spours other recent signing Perry Richardson.

Redskins currently rely on their first line of Peter Molnar, Richard Hardy and Louis Lockwood for the bulk of the team’s goals, so Spours will be hoping his new look second line can start to contribute sooner rather than later.

Redskins visit Peterborough on Saturday before hosting Bracknell Hornets at Streatham Ice Rink on Sunday (6.45pm).
