Herne Hill Harriers’ men’s cross country team experienced a rare defeat at Saturday’s Reigate Priory Relays, an event they have dominated over the past 10 years.

Despite an early lead, Harriers’ men had to settle for second place as they were overcome by an impressive Tonbridge side that had fought back hard late in the race to snatch the title.

But all was not lost, as an inspiring performance from the women’s team ensured third place and a bronze medal for their efforts. Karen Ellison and Suzie Richards were the 3rd and 4th fastest women of the day, but a remarkable performance from Suzanne Swaine kept the women’s team in third place.

Kevin Quinn was the 6th fastest man on the day, while Chris Busaileh was 8th and Alan Barnes 9th in the overall men's standings.

Herne Hill Harriers depth was again on display, having closed 3 men's teams of 6. The women got up to double figures in individual numbers, as they had 3 complete teams of 3.
