Epsom Ladies stayed in touch with South Premier Division One leaders Surbiton by beating Woking 2-1 on Saturday.

A confident start by Epsom was countered by some determined attacking by the visitors but it was Epsom’s class that soon told.

A fast-flowing move was finished with a disguised shot from Sammie Archer who foxed the keeper to give Epsom the lead.

The margin was doubled within minutes when a short corner strike from Fiona Bettesworth was parried into the path of an eager Claire Hugo who’s powerful shot was unstoppable.

Woking fought back well in the second half forcing Epsom to defend for long periods.

Sarah Wight was in good form in goal and deserved her man of the match award as she conceded only once, late in the game, to ensure Epsom took all three points.

Epsom, who are level with second placed Reading, visit Harrow this Saturday.

Epsom II continued their fine start to the season with a 1-0 win over Reigate Priory first to stay top of the Surrey Premier League.

The thirds surrendered a two-goal lead late on and lost 3-2 to Reigate II in Division Two.

Epsom men won 4-2 at Farnham II in Surrey/Hants League Division One.
