Sanderstead extended their lead at the top of South League’s Surrey Division Two on Saturday as they trounced hosts Old Georgians IIIs 7-1.

The scoreline means the Millers retained their 100 per cent start to the campaign, putting them six points clear of nearest rivals Surrey Old Boys only six games into the season.

From the outset the Millers pressurised the Georgians’ circle, with excellent interplay and incisive passing.

Chris O’Hagan set up Richard Bruce for the opener, playing a defence-splitting ball from 20 yards to the back post, where his winger applied a clinical finish.

Denzil Dolley made it 2-0, collecting the ball at the edge of the ‘D’ and jinking through the tackles to flick neatly into the roof of the Georgians’ goal.

Emit Raja went close soon after, but saw his drag-flick saved.

Thankfully striker Mark Hunnisett followed up the shot and reacted quickest to sweep the ball in for 3-0.

Before the interval Dolley bagged his brace, flashing a shot past the Georgians’ goalie when one-on-one.

Following the restart Sanderstead were relentless. Hunnisett slotted home his second from close range after John Devaney drew a save from the ‘keeper, having picked up Mark Bryan’s pinpoint pass.

Captain Martyn Avery struck a clean shot at a short corner to extend the lead to 6-0.

The Millers’ best goal came at the end. O’Hagan and Dolley were again involved, with the former sending his teammate free down the flank.

Dolley’s disguised pass found Charlie Vening at the edge of the circle for a superb swept finish into the top corner of the net.

Old Georgians managed to salvage a goal against the run of play, to deny their victors a clean sheet, but the outcome was not in any doubt.

After the game, Avery said: “We know that to be successful in this league and win promotion we must play to a consistently high standard, so I’m really pleased to see such quality from the team throughout the 70 minutes.

"It’s a shame that we conceded late on, especially as Dan Pacitti in goal didn't have a save to make all game, but this does not take away from our performance.”
