Croydon Harrier’s senior men’s team came agonisingly close to a podium finish in the Rosenheim League final last Wednesday, writes Matthew Kiernan.

On a rain-swept evening at Kingsmeadow, Croydon finished just one point behind Belgrave Harriers after a solid team performance.

Oweka Wanogho won the 200m in 22.4 seconds and was narrowly edged out to second in the 100m (11.0s) in far from ideal conditions for sprinting.

Kariym Irving grabbed Croydon’s other victory of the evening in the discus with a 42.62m effort, while father Richard gained a lifetime best in the hammer of 31.15m.

In high quality fields, runners-up spots were gained by junior athletes Elliot Safo (6.72m) in the long jump and Ned Quiney (4.40m) in the pole vault.

The competition completes the men’s 2009 track and field season.
