Over-40 veteran Alexander Chalmers marked his debut in the Wimbledon Common 5km parkrun by winning a close fought race on Saturday morning.

Chalmers, of Springburn Harriers, clocked 16 minutes 48 seconds to finish ahead of James Savage of Stourbridge (16:53) and David Symons of Thames Hare & Hounds (17:02).

Hercules Wimbledon’s Claire Grima was women’s winner for the ninth time in 18:44 ahead of Serpentine’s Emma Calderbank (19:54) and Charlotte Wilton of Wimbledon Windmilers (20:18).

In the Age Graded competition, Terry Eakin recorded a performance of 85.03%.

In the points competition Andrew K Davies has a lead of 19 points over second placed Ian Higgins. Nicola El Kadiri leads Francesca Carter by 250 in the ladies competition.

This week there were 22 first timers.

The total number of PBs since the Wimbledon Common parkrun started now stands at 3007. In this time, 2757 runners from 160 different clubs have completed the race 11613 times covering a distance of 58065 kilometers.

The male course record is held by Russell Dessaix-Chin who ran 15:12 on 09/05/09, event #123. The female equivalent is held by Justina Heslop who ran 17:49 on 15/09/07, event #37.
