John Harries fired a two under par 70 to top the latest qualifier for the Crown Golf English PGA Assistants’ Championship.

The Sunbury Golf Centre assistant was in good form at Pyrford with two birdies and an eagle at the 308-year par-four 15th, offset by two bogeys.

His success means he secures one of six qualifying spots available at Pyrford and will line up in the 36-hole final against some of the best young English assistants at Hampton Court Palace Golf Club on September 28, where they will compete for a £6,000 prize fund.

Also making it through to the final in a share of second place at one under par were John Pleasant (St Clere's Hall), Chris Moss (Coombe Wood), Darren Peters, James Ross Martin (Lavender Park Golf Club) and Paul Nessling (Highwoods).

The tournament, won on its inaugural staging last year by Guy Woodman (East Berkshire), is the inspiration of Crown Golf who are one of Europe’s biggest golf course owners.
