Sutton youngster Feyisayo Badejo enjoyed an athletics masterclass with Olympic gold medallist Christine Ohuruogu after winning a place on the Aviva UKA Academy regional training programme.

The nine-year-old, from Hugh Myddleton School, was one of 10 youngsters who took part in the session at Lee Valley Athletics Stadium last week.

The Aviva UKA Academy is designed to give every child in the country the opportunity to get involved in athletics by the time of the London 2012 Olympics.

“It is the job of every international athlete to go out and encourage children to get into sport and stay in it,” said Ohuruogu.

“It is a one-of-a-kind scheme and I think it will definitely get young guys and girls like Feyisayo to continue in athletics for a long time.”

Feyisayo, who turned her hand to sprinting, high jump, triple jump and javelin, is adamant she’d like to follow in the footsteps of Ohuruogu and represent her country at an Olympic Games.

“It was a great experience to come along and meet Christine and she passed on some good advice for the future,” said Feyisayo.

“She told me never to give up until you cross the finish line and I learnt a lot about sprinting and jumping. I just hope I can be successful like her.”
