Triple European junior cross country champion Stephanie Twell will race for Britain over 5,000m at the European U23 Championships in Lithuania, despite missing last weekend’s trials in Bedford.
The 20-year-old St Mary’s Twickenham student was an automatic choice as she tops the UK women’s rankings witha time of 15:18.46 in winning an international meeting at Belgrade, Serbia, in May.
St Mary’s, Twickenham’s Andrew Osagie clinched his placed in Britain’s 52-strong squad when he won the U23 800m in a season’s best 1:47.70.
Fellow St Mary’s student Michael Cole was sixth (1:50.56).
A third St Mary’s student in the U23 squad is discus thrower Jade Nicholls, who threw a personal best 54.27 at Bedford to take second place in the England Championship.
St Mary’s Simon Horsfield secured his place in the British team for the European Junior Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia, by winning the junior 1,500m title (3:46.29).
Sisters Jessica and Katherine Sparke took silver and bronze in the U23 5000m in a season’s best of 16:46.45 and 16:47.09, respectively. Fellow student Bryony Proctor was seventh (17:35.71).
St Mary’s Laura Parker was sixth in the junior women’s 1,500m (4:30.28).
St Mary’s Susi Boast was fifth in the junior women’s 3,000m ( 9:34.27).
St Mary’s Ben Lindsay (15:21.44) and Steve Connor (15:22.15) were 11th and 12th respectively in the men’s U23 5,000m.
