Triple European junior women’s cross country champion Steph Twell races at the St Mary’s Classic track meeting at St Mary’s Twickenham next Wednesday (4.45pm).

This event showcases the endurance performance centre at St Mary’s University College, which has helped Twell, Andy Baddeley and Mo Farah become world class athletes.

Past visitors to the Classic include Steve Cram, Kelly Holmes, Ian Stewart and Dave Bedford – a former student at the college.

Professor Richard Fisher, head of St Mary’s 2012 preparations and sport strategy, said: “The Classic started life in 2005 as the St Mary’s Relays on a relatively small scale and, in only five years, it has become one of the prestigious events in the UK Challenge Series.

“The change has proved to be a great success and this second St Mary’s Classic promises to be even better than last year.

“There will be an evening of very high quality competition involving some of our best young talent and a visit from a Scottish team.”
