The Blue Square Greyhound Derby takes place at Wimbledon Stadium this Saturday – the climax to a thrilling competition.

More than 140 entries have been whittled down to the six Derby finalists, who are each in with a chance of winning the £100,000 first prize and taking their place in history.

The line up for the final is: Trap 1- Fear Zafonic Trap 2 - Ballymac Ruso Trap 3 - Farloe Reason Trap 4 - Glenard Sunrise Trap 5 - Kinda Ready Trap 6 - Wise Thought

The Captain, Wimbledon’s resident tipster gives you a flavour for the finalists.

“With Wise Thought being the only wide seed, he automatically draws trap 6 which is a massive boost for this 36+ kilo dog who boast tremendous all round pace and he will surely go very close.

Kinda Ready could be drawn nearer the rails but will run his heart out for connections who I’m sure will be very proud to have made the final.

Glenard Sunrise is running very well for Patsy Byrne who has tasted Derby success before. Patsy also has Ballymac Ruso drawn in trap 2, however he’ll need to be on his toes at the trap rise but if he’s leading will be very hard to catch.

Both Farloe Reason and Fear Zafonic are trained by the man himself Charlie Lister who is no stranger to Derby glory. Both have excellent chances of taking the prize especially Fear Zafonic.

Fear Zafonic who is drawn in trap one, donning his favourite red jacket could finally lay the trap one derby jinx to rest, and has come a long way starting out as the original favourite at the start of the competition. It certainly wouldn’t be a wise move to overlook him. Farloe Reason is also a very big runner indeed.

On the night of the final there will be 14 races and guests will be greeted by a steel band.

Bars and fast food are both available in the stadium.

Doors open at 4.30pm and admission is £12 for the Grandstand and £10 for the Mick the Miller enclosure, customers are advised to arrive early. More information can be found at www.lovethedogs.co.uk or by calling 020 8946 8000.
