South London Harriers' track and field athletes of all ages were out in force last Saturday at several locations.

At the Southern Men’s League Match Two at Croydon Arena, SLH was dominant in the jumps, and competitive in the sprints, but lacked a few key team members causing the club to needlessly drop valuable points.

Despite some good individual performances, Crawley proved too strong, winning 107 points and SLH had to settle for second place with 91 points followed by Holland Sports with 73 and East Grinstead with 71.

SLH’s notable successes were:

- Billy Porter, first in the 100m and second in 200m.

- Will Parry, first in both the 400m and the 400m hurdles.

- Ben McDaniel, second in the 800m.

- Tom Hart, second in the 1500m.

- Daniel Sellman, second in the 5000m.

- Paul Mitchell, first in the steeplechase.

- Darren Brown, first in the long jump and second in the high jump.

- Stephen Babalola, first in the triple jump.

- Peter Wickens, secpnd in both the hammer and the javelin.

- Team second in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.

At Epsom’s track, SLH’s Pippa Major won the gold medal and championship title for her victory in the 5,000m race at the Surrey Women’s Veterans Track Championship.

A large number of the club’s youngsters travelled to Chelmsford to compete in the National Young Athletes League Match 2.

This high turn out provided the full range and depth of SLH’s talent and they benefited with an emphatic team victory.

Successes came thick and fast during the afternoon’s competition and from an impressive list of personal and team achievements the most notable were those who, not content with a single victory, went on for a second win of the day.

Creston Harrison, Finn Nightingale, Reshae McPherson, Shanice Harrison, Josh Street, Tom Bullen, James MacDonald, Kalise Powell, Iyani Obi-Adewole, Chioma Obi-Adewole, Afam Obi-Adwole and Nkongni Nukajam all registered two victories.
