Croydon Harriers athletes made their mark at the South of England AA U15 and U17 Championships at Ashford last weekend, recording a gold, two silver and two bronze medals, plus four personal bests.

Promising youngster Omari-Carr Miller again underlined why he is the fastest U15 400m runner in the country, racing well clear in the final to post an impressive 50.92 second win before finishing third in the 800m.

U17 triple jumper Jon Ilori got it all right with his sixth and final jump to clear 13.85m and snatch second place.

Peter Chambers produced a decisive surge in the final furlong of the U15 1500m to win bronze, while the club’s fourth medal came from the field, with Faraz Rafi taking the U15 discus sliver.

First-year U17 runner Jordan Maurice achieved the qualifying standard to compete in the English Schools Athletics Association in Sheffield in July when he finished seventh in the 1500m final while Cameron Smith came fourth in the U17 100m.

Harriers' girls team finished third out of six teams in the Lily Braben League on Saturday, with Sherin Irving winning the athlete of the match award for her U13 discus and 100m wins.

Sherin, together with Cheyanne Evans-Grey, achieved one of the club’s two event maximums when they clocked 13.8sec and 14.1 sec in the 100m, with the other one coming in the U15 shot put thanks to Hannah Marshall and Stephanie Montague.

The club’s first class team spirit was exemplified by Trevina Medley and Zainab Carr-Miller who both scored valuable points in three events and by the two victorious Croydon relay teams.

On Wednesday evening the Croydon club hosts the Rosenheim League at Albert Road.

Next Saturday the Harriers Women and girls, boosted by Donna Fraser, will be looking to improve on their second place in the Southern League at Eton.

The clubs highest status team, their Young Athletes travel to Basingstoke on Sunday for their third UKA Southern Premier League Match, while several of the Harriers veterans will be seeking Surrey Championship success at Kingsmeadow.
