Malden Wanderers returned to winning ways on Saturday with a tightly contested match at newly promoted Banstead.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, Malden were soon in trouble at 13 for 2 but a hundred partnership between David Gorrod (66) and Paul Barford (43) steadied the ship.

Banstead contained Malden for a long period in the middle, Mark Haughton was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 26 but overseas recruit Kallen Bond (52*) recorded his first fifty of the campaign with some excellent and at times unorthodox hitting as Malden posted 216 for 6 from their 50 overs.

Once again Cottrell and Mander bowled well up front but with little reward however the departure of Surrey players Rory Burns (31) and Tom Lancefield (11) in quick succession opened the door to Malden.

Banstead captain Jak Martin batted superbly for 70 and looked to be in cruise control at 173 for 4.

However a flurry of quick wickets including a direct hit run out in the batting powerplay left Banstead reeling at 180 for 9. Jak Luxford made matters a little closer with an aggressive 25* but the damage was already done.

Malden won by 8 runs and now look forward to entertaining Spencer at Cambridge Avenue.
