Race debutant Andrew Mercer pipped Clapham Chasers’ Neil Aitken by three seconds in a thrilling race to the line in Saturday morning’s Wimbledon Common 5km parkrun on Saturday morning.
Mercer ‘s winning time was 16 minutes 40 seconds. Another first timer, Alex Macauley of UCL Athletics Club, was third (17:07).
Wimbledon Windmilers’ Denise Harris was women’s winner for the first time in 20:01 ahead of clubmate Anna Ballance (20:24) and unattached runner Flora Gordon-Lennox (20:29).
In the age-graded competition competition, VM70 runner Keith Spacie recorded an incredible performance of 89.73%, lowering his personal best by 13 seconds to 20:27 .
