In what were two excellent sub-17-minute performances, Andrew Mercer just held off Neil Aitkin as they ran neck and neck for the full distance of the course at Saturday's Wimbledon Common parkrun.

In his 1st appearance, unattached runner Andrew (SM35-39) won for the 1st time in a time of 16:40.

Neil (SM35-39) representing Clapham Chasers RC took second place by 3 seconds but had the consolation of recording a 16:43 PB.

Another first timer, Alex Macaulay, (SM20-24) of UCL Athletics & Cross Country Club was placed third in a time of 17:07.

In her 8th appearance, Denise Harris (VW35-39) of Wimbledon Windmilers won in a time of 20:01 for the 1st time. Denise beat Anna Ballance (VW35-39) representing Wimbledon Windmilers by 23 seconds.

Anna recorded 20:24 in the process. Unattached runner Flora Gordon-Lennox, (SW25-29) was placed third, maintaining her recent fine form with a 20:29 PB.

In today's Age Graded competition, VM70 runner Keith Spacie recorded an incredible performance of 89.73%, lowering his PB by 13 secs to 20:27 .

In the points competition Andrew K Davies has a lead of 98 points over second placed James Ball. Nicola El Kadiri leads Elizabeth Tapp by 297 in the ladies competition.

This week there were 36 first timers.

Some 46 runners recorded PBs, bringing the total number since the Wimbledon Common started to 2575. In this time, 2491 runners from 155 different clubs have completed the race 10044 times covering a distance of 50220 kilometers.

The male course record is held by Kojo Kyereme who ran 15:24 on 17/03/07, event #11. The female equivalent is held by Justina Heslop who ran 17:49 on 15/09/07, event #37.
