Newly promoted Croydon Harriers got off to almost the perfect start in the Southern Women's League on Saturday when they travelled to Braunton in Devon.
The team narrowly missed winning their four-club match when they were beaten into second by hosts North Devon AC, 155 points to 151.
Their encouraging opening effort sees the Croydon women nicely placed second in the ten-club league.
Next Saturday, the Croydon men open their Southern League programme at Colchester and the club’s UK Premier League Young Athlete’s team travel to Sutcliffe Park for their first fixture on Sunday.
