Gino Rea won a thrilling WSBK Superstock 600 race at Assen and ended up fourth in the Dutch ONK Superbike.

Gino got a lighting start to see him in front into the first corner and through the first and second lap.

Lonbois then passed and the following 6 laps saw Gino, Lombois, Petrucci, Bussolotti and Litjens (the main 5 title contenders) all fighting for position in a tight group.

With three laps to go Bussolotti ran too fast at the end of the home straight and took both himself and Petrucci out of the race leaving the remaining three to fight it out.

With a podium easily in reach and two title contenders out, Gino decided to ride smart and would have been happy with a podium.

Two laps to go and Lonbois passed Litgens for the lead but lost the front shortly after. Into the final lap and Litjens led Gino to the final corner but locked up the rear leaving enough of a gap for Gino to pass to lead the final 100m to the finish line.

A great race and certainly one to watch on Motors TV (Sky Channel 413, Virgin Media 545) when it is on this Thursday at 7.30pm (UK Time).

Gino said: "That was a pretty exciting race. I got a really good start and managed to lead the first two laps. My bike doesnt quite have the straight line speed so I was pushing at the beginning while I had a new tyre to stay with the leading group. Toward the end of the race I was in a good position to battle for the win or a podium when the Yamaha Italia riders took each other out.

“With a podium easily in reach I sat in 3rd with 2 laps to go. They had a bit of a gap so I pushed to close up, I was right behind Joey Litjens when Lonbois went down.

"I used my head and pushed just enough to be close to Joey on the final lap when he broke a little too late into the final chicane, I didnt hesitate to take the gap and finished on the top step! Im thrilled to take the win and a 10 point lead in the championship!"

Gino also raced his third Dutch Superbike round with the Duntep team, this afternoon at the Assen event finishing 4th following his 2nd place at Spa last weekend. Gino started 14th on the grid due to his 600cc qualifying time having to be used but another lightning start gave him 7th position into the first corner.

Gino then started to work his way up reaching 3rd before a rear brake failure slowed progress leaving Gino 4th at the end of the race.
