Hercules Wimbledon’s Hussein Ahmed Aly was a runaway winner of the Tadworth open 10-mile multi-terrain race on Epsom Downs.
Aly, runner-up in 2008, led 632 runners home in 55 minutes, 43 seconds, well clear of Chichester Runners’ James Baker (57:05), with Epsom & Ewell’s Phil Sanger third (57:36).
First runner home from organising club Tadworth was David Freeman (1:00.45) in seventh and second over-40 veteran.
Fleet & Crookham’s Nicholas Holmes (1:06.47) was top over 50-veteran, with Reigate Priory’s Stewart McIntyre the first over-60 finisher (1:07:21).
Third over-60 finisher was Tadworth’s Geoff Newton (1:08:07), with Hercules Wimbledon’s Pete Giles (1:13.16) fourth in that category.
Sutton Runners’ Vicky Foad, recent winner of the Ron Hill Surrey Classic road race series, took the women’s race in 1:07:41 from West 4 Harriers’ Isobel Rea (1:08:15) and Stragglers’ over-40 veteran Phyllis Flynn (1:09:32).
Veronique Bringlow was second veteran (1:12:05), two seconds ahead of over-60 veteran Jane Davies, who posted the top age-graded performance.
Tadworth took the men’s team title from Runnymede Runners, with West 4 Harriers the women’s champions ahead of Sutton Runners.
