Howards of Effingham schoolgirl Emelia Gorecka took the Surrey Schools intermediate girls cross country title in Priory Park, Reigate, on Saturday.

Gorecka, who will be 15 at the end of this month, won all 15 of her cross country races in 2008, including the English schools and English national titles for her age group as well as the South of England title.

In bright sunshine, she won Saturday’s 4.5km race in 13 minutes, 38 seconds, beating training partner Ruth Haynes, from Guildford, by 11 seconds, with the third-placed runner a further 52 seconds adrift.

Gorecka, running for Central Surrey, was also 44 seconds faster than the senior winner over the same distance.

Grace O’Leary, from Wallington High School, led Sutton & District to bronze team medals in finishing sixth (15:02).

Kingston’s first runners were Tiffin High School pair Molly Renfer in ninth (15:54) and Maddie Garner in 13th (16:20).

For Merton, Ursuline High’s Michaela Knespl was 21st (17:06).

Isabel Brinsden, intermediate girls’ winner last year, was runner-up in the senior girls’ race.

Brinsden, a pupil at Rosebery School in Epsom, clocked 17 minutes, 39 seconds, 17 seconds behind the girl she beat to her title last year, Loulou Rowlands, from South Surrey.

Emily Hallett, from Nonsuch High, was the first Sutton runner, taking sixth place in 16:00 .

Sophie Storey, who attends Manor House in Leatherhead, led Central Surrey to team victory in the junior girls’ 3.3km race.

Storey (13.29) was third individual behind Guildford’s Susan Rankin (13:06) and Waverley’s Emily Alexander-High (13:24).

Two Tiffin School girls led the way for Kingston, with Katie Iliffe fifth (13:31) and Faye Holder 11th (14:16).

Eleanor Hahn-Smith, from Nonsuch School, Sutton, finished third in the girls’ U13 2.6km race (12:18).

Kingston Grammar School’s Emma Headley was fifth (12:23), with Ursuline High’s Rebecca Stone, representing Merton, 11th (13:04).

l Sutton schoolboy Daniel Sellman repeated his 2008 placing by finshing third in the Surrey Schools senior boys’ 6.5km championship in Priory Park, Reigate, on Saturday.

Wilson’s schoolboy Sellman, who turned 18 in December, clocked 24 minutes, 21 seconds in finishing behind Waverley’s Mickey Reed (23:18) and Dorking’s Luke Caldwell (23:53).

He led Sutton to second team place and secured a place in Surrey’s team for the English Schools Championships in March.

Andrew Penney, who attends King College School in Wimbledon, was three seconds behind in fourth, helping Merton to third team place.

Alex Robinson, from Reed’s, Cobham, running for North East Surrey, was seventh (25:55), with Kingston’s Jamie Tabbert 10th (27:14).

Howard of Effingham’s Adam Hulin, third last year, was seventh in this year’s junior boys’ 4.5km event (14:25).

Wimbledon College’s Joe Clark was 11th (14:47), with Tiffin School’s Oliver Gardiner 13th (14:52) and Kingston Grammar’s Jack Kersler 14th (14:57). Patrick Lucas, representing Sutton, was 17th.

Sutton Grammar’s Ed Saywell (20:12) helped his borough to second place in the intermediate boys’ 5.9km race, finishing nine seconds ahead of Jordan Maurice, from Wilson’s School, who came ninth.

First Merton finisher was Geordie Logan in 11th (20:30), with Epsom College youngster Joe Toomey six seconds behind in 12th.

Sutton’s Tom Holden was fifth in the boys’ U13 2.6km race in 11:26.
