Streatham Redskins captain Joe Johnston has said that he does not feel like his side are under pressure to win, despite facing a fight to get into the play-offs.

Johnston picked up a goal and an assist as his side were held 2-2 by the Milton Keynes Thunder on Sunday.

Ahead of the Redskins grudge match with rival Invicta Dynamos Johnston said that because of the openness of the league this season his side do not feel the pressure in the same way that they did last year, which he said was refreshing.

“Last year we lost about three games all season, so when we did lose it was a massive deal,” he explained. “This year the league is so open that everybody can beat everybody, so if you lose you know that the other sides around you are going to drop points as well – it’s interesting to play in.

“Obviously we go into every game wanting to win, especially as we near the end of the season, the games left are running out and we want to get on a run going into the playoffs. But you never know if you are going to win or lose when you step on the ice, it is a huge change from last year.

“We don’t have one goal, it isn’t just lets get into the playoffs, which is where we were last year. We are just going out trying to win every game, it is a unique feeling. It must be interesting for the fans because they don’t know what the result will be, or what results elsewhere will be.”

Johnston believes his side are one of three or four sides that are battling for the final playoff spots, but could also get dragged into a relegation battle if results don’t go their way.

The season continues Sunday when they visit Invicta, who are currently the league’s form side.

Martin Lambert picked up a goal Sunday, while Perry Richardson added an assist.
