Hercules Wimbledon Athletic Club star Liam White lifted the South of England men's U17s indoor 1,500m title at Lee Valley Athletics Centre, North London, on Sunday.

White, who has won all three of his Sweatshop Surrey Cross Country League races this winter, raced to a narrow win in four minutes, 23.33 seconds - the biggest win of his young athletics career.

This weekend, he hopes to challenge for a medal in the South of England Cross Country Championships at Hillingdon House Farm, Uxbridge, and then, next Wednesday, he competes in the London Schools Championships at Parliament Hill Fields.

Meanwhile, a trio of Hercules Wimbledon athletes are in line to represent Surrey in the English Schools Cross Country Championships in March after fine runs in the county championships at Priory Park, Reigate, on Saturday.

Andrew Penney finished fourth in the senior boys’ championship, covering the 6.5km in 24:24, just three seconds behind the bronze medallist.

Alex Robinson was seventh in the same race in 25:55, while a third English schools team contender, Ed Saywell, finished eighth in the intermediate boys’ race over 5.9km in 20:12.

Best of the other Hercules Wimbledon runners in action at Reigate were Eleanor Hahn-Smith, third in the girls under 13 2.6km championship in 11:49, Emma Headley, fifth in 12:23 and Rebecca Stone 11th in 13:04. Max Cooper was 13th in the boys under 13 2.6km championship in 12:06. Meanwhile, Joe Clark was 11th in the junior boys 4.5km championship in14:47 with Tim Livingstone 18th in 15:05. Ella Benedict was 10th in the senior girls 4.5km championship in 16:22 and Michaela Knespl 21st in the intermediate girls race over the same distance in 13:38.

Hercules Wimbledon's Jon Fairs headed home a 94-strong field in the Wimbledon Common 5km park run on Saturday morning in 18:42 with clubmates Rory McMahon third in 17:57, Andrew Davies fifth in 18:42, Frank wood 15th and third veteran in 20:13, Bradlee Mulroe, at 14, the youngest runner in the event, 17th in 20:31, Tim Bartley 28th in 21:45 and Adam Fenton 29th in 21:47.

Amandine King was third woman in the Bushy Park run in 21:39 beating her dad, Barry, who finished in 22:42, by more than a minute.

Hercules Wimbledon's Hugh Saxby was third veteran over 50 finisher in Veteran Athletic Club's 5.8 miles championship on Wimbledon Common. He was sixth finisher in 34:59. Former international Grenville Tuck was second in the over 55 championship finishing ninth in 37:14. Martin Miller was fourth over 60 finisher in 39:20 with Stephen McDuell taking the over 40 title in 41:11.

Hercules Wimbledon's James Trapmore finished sixth place out of more than 230 runners in the Metropolitan cross country league race at Stevenage on Saturday in 27:04 over a frost-bound course at Trent Park, Cockfosters, on Saturday, to secure his place in the Middlesex team for the UK Inter-Counties cross country championships at Nottingham on March 7.
