Surrey U25s’ Junior Home Counties League title hopes were virtually ended when visitors Sussex claimed an 82-82 draw with the final bowl of Sunday’s match at Leatherhead.
Surrey won on three of their four rinks, but Gareth McDonagh’s quartet suffered a 33-8 defeat.
Surrey’s best rink saw C Souter (Weybridge), O Dixon (East Horsley), B Chadwick (Guildford) and S Higginbotham (Tongham) win 30-12.
Second place is still very much up for grabs if Surrey win their final match against leaders Middlesex at Parsons Green on Sunday, August 10.
