Joe Hill's fourth consecutive fifty sparked Worcester Park into life against Old Wimbledonians on Saturday in a draw where bat ultimately dominated ball.

The opener extended his stunning sequence as Park amassed 250-4 on the back of further fluent knocks from Rob Bell (74) and Rob Hill, who stroked an unbeaten 68.

But the hosts also cashed in on a pitch that invited shots and made 224-6 in reply as Donald Dunsmore (63) and Nick Lo (51) rallied with half-centuries of their own.

"I'm disappointed we didn't get close to winning," skipper Bell admitted afterwards. "No matter how many runs you score you still have to bowl well and put pressure on the batsmen.

"We set attacking fields right from ball one but this week we struggled to bowl six good balls in an over and probably got what we deserved."

Nevertheless Park remain within one win of top spot and can be encouraged by the form of Joe Hill and Rob Waite (40), who put on 96 - their highest opening stand of the season.

Nor was the platform wasted as Bell and Rob Hill bedded in for the remainder of the innings, compiling an impressive 150-run stand for the fourth-wicket in the process.

Bell tried to keep up the pressure by having five catchers around the bat from the start of Old Wimbledonians' reply, which left plenty of gaps in the field.

Spinner Aidan Bell pouched a good caught and bowled to remove Lo but otherwise breakthroughs were in short supply and, in the final analysis, the pitch was probably the winner.

Meanwhile, paceman Dom Fell (5-68) claimed his second five-for in as many weeks as the second XI (200-9) earned a draw at home to Cheam (226-9).

But fifties from openers Michael Byford (66) and Nick Kingan (53) could not prevent the third XI losing to Esher by two wickets despite 3-12 from Chris Jackson.
