Surrey lifted 15 medals at the Sainsbury's English Schools Track and Field Championships in Gateshead.

Howard of Effingham schoolgirl Amelia Gorecka, 14, continued her outstanding season by winning the junior girls' 1,500m (4:30.12), more than two seconds clear of her nearest challenger.

A hat-trick of individual successes helped Surrey to win the Hendon Council Trophy as intermediate boys' champions.

Rikkie Letch took the 800m (1:55.55), while personal bests saw Jonathan Hay win the 3,000m (8:45.82) and Andrew Jordan the hammer (65.28m).

There were silver medals for Babatunda Amosu (triple jump), and Lawrence Okoye (discus).

Simeon Ramsay-Graham, who goes to Rutlish School in Merton, took bronze in the 200m (22.27).

But despite topping the UK rankings, Herne Hill's Michael Wheeler had to settle for third in the shot (17.26m) and was well short of his summer's best 18.71m.

Surrey finished third in the intermediate girls' section.

Amy Allcock won the 300m (39.30), Ciara Dullaghan took silver in the 1,500m, while Isabelle Brinsden from Rosebery, Epsom, took the bronze in the 3,000m (9:54.70).

In the senior girls' section, Mary Iheke, from New Malden's Holy Cross School, was runner-up in the 400m (56.31). Khalil Njoya won the junior boys' discus with 44.80m, the third best throw by an U15s athlete this summer.

In the same section, Jordan Maurice, from Wilson's School, Sutton, took the silver medal in the 800m (2:01.28).
