Croydon boxer Chas Symonds has warned the light-welterweight division to watch out after demolishing Alex Spitko on Friday night.

The 26-year-old won in three rounds when the referee stopped the fight after just two minutes and 16 seconds before Symonds could knock out his Latvian born opponent.

It was Symonds' second win since returning from a three-year ring absence and he is confident it is just the beginning.

"Friday night I looked good and everyone said I looked good but I'm only 40 per cent," he said.

"Wait until I am 80 or 100 per cent and boxing good then the light welterweight division are in trouble because I fought at 40 per cent and took a good fighter out in three rounds."

Both fighters came out and threw plenty of punches but Symonds, retreating with his chin high, was more than once was caught by a left hook.

Spitko's forward aggression yielded a cut over the former scaffolders right eye but the left hooks and right hands thrown by Symonds had a devastating effect - forcing Spitko to stop.

"It was a good fight but I've still got to work on my boxing and keeping my chin down and improving my jab," said Symonds.

"I was confident but I knew it was going to be a hard fight. I found out he had had five weeks training but I have gone out there and done a good job."

Symonds also called on Croydon's boxing fans to get behind him and turn out in their droves at his next fight.

He said: "I'm an entertaining fighter, a fighter that everyone loves to watch. So why don't all of Croydon get behind me and support me like Bolton support Amir Khan and Manchester support Ricky Hatton?"

Promoter Frank Maloney will now meet with Symonds to discuss a possible five-fight deal, in which Symonds wants a title bout.

"He wants to sit down and do something. I would want a shot at an English, British or commonwealth title within three to five fights."

For now though Symonds is going to take some time off as he and girlfriend Gina wait for the birth of their first child.

"I'm going to relax now, wait for the baby to come and go back to the ring in a couple of weeks," he said.

"I would like to thank all the supporters that came down from Croydon. Also Paul Hewitt, my mum and dad who stood by me and my girlfriend Gina as well as my sponsors."
