Mitcham powerlifter Aaron Gideon has targeted gold at the British Single Lift Championships this weekend in a bid to land a slot at the World Championships in October.
The 28-year-old electrician only took up the sport two years ago and is already the British 60kg category bench-press record holder with a lift of 112.5kg.
He came second in the British full-power championships earlier this year - which involved lifts in all three disciplines of squats, bench-press and the dead lift - and wants to go one step further in Bradford at the weekend.
"I've already done well over the three disciplines before so I'd like to think I stand a good chance of winning," said Gideon, who trains at Squats Gym in Streatham.
"The bench press is my best discipline and if I can take gold then I'll be off to the worlds in Belgium."
