It was a busy weekend for Herne Hill Harriers, with an open meeting in Battersea Park's Millennium Stadium that attracted Sky Sports, a semi-final cup match at Barnet, a young athletes' match at Norwich and a 10k road race at Elmbridge in Surrey and a race at Dartford.

One star at the open meeting was Lawrence Mensah, who tried the 400m after a season of sprinting and ran a new best of 49.7 seconds.

At Barnet, the men finished fifth, with Thomas Ashby clocking a personal best of 15.54 in the high hurdles, and Dele Onifade winning the 100m in 10.62.

The women are confident of reaching the cup's plate final after good performances from Denise Osei, who won the 100m in 12.08, Monique Davis, second in the 400m in 60.12, Hannah Edwards, second in the 1,500m with a personal best of 4:44.71, and veteran Clare Pauzers, also second, in the 3,000m in 10:49.50.

The club's youngsters left London at 7.30am for the trip to Norfolk, and finished third, only a few points from second spot.

The Elmbridge 10k saw Tim Elsey finish fifth in 33:01, with backing from a dozen Herne Hillers, while Brian Wilder was sixth in the half marathon at Dartford in one hour 15 minutes to stay on course for an autumn marathon.
