Teddington batsman Dawid Malan is not convinced his spectacular Twenty20 form for Middlesex will land him a regular starting spot at Lord's.

The 20-year-old took two wickets and hit a quickfire 28 as Teddington maintained their lead at the top of the Middlesex County League Premier Division with a five-wicket win at Winchmore Hill.

Malan has starred for the Crusaders in the shortest form of the county game, striking 182 runs at an average of 45 - including a match-winning 41 not out to dispatch rivals Surrey at St Johns Wood.

Middlesex stand on the brink of a quarter-final spot after Tuesday's six-run win over Kent, in which Malan scored an unbeaten 52.

Teddington skipper Toby Bailey has raised fears he may lose his star man for the rest of the season, but the South African-born run scorer is not so sure.

"It is great fun at the moment and it is great that, when I have finally been given my chance, I have been able to take it," Malan said.

"Things are a bit hectic trying to play for Middlesex and playing for Teddington but, hopefully, it will only help me.

"The highlight has been the innings against Surrey.

"To get runs at a difficult time and in front of a big crowd was awesome.

"There are no signs that I'll be involved after the Twenty20 at the moment, so I will probably be available for Teddington as much as possible.

"All I can do is keep doing my best."

Malan's best has seen him score 179 league runs for his club this season, leaving him on target to beat last year's tally of 604.

But his efforts were overshadowed at the weekend, as Bailey's 91-ball 74 anchored his side's successful pursuit of Hill's 179 all out.

It was a swift return to form ahead Saturday's visit of Hampstead following a home defeat to bottom side Brentham, and Malan admitted it was a much stronger team performance.

"Toby batted extremely well early on, which set us on out way," he added.

"Things are going along nicely at the moment.

"We bowled very well at the start and the batters finished things off for us."
