St Mary's Twickenham's double European junior cross country champion Steph Twell was in top form at a windy Bedford on Saturday.

Twell, back to her determined best after recovering from a stress fracture which kept her out of racing for almost four months, ran away from the rest of the field to take the junior women's 1,500m title.

After a steady start, she came from the back of the field to clock a fine 61 seconds in the final 400m to take the gold medal in four minutes, 24.91 seconds to secure her place in the World Junior Championships team.

Another St Mary's winner at Bedford was Andy Vernon, the European U23s cross country bronze medallist, who took the U23s 1,500m title in 3:54.0.

Cobham-based Nick Stanisavljevic won the men's U23s high jump (2.14m).

Kingston & Polytechnic's Dominique Blaize took silver in the U23s long jump with a leap of 6.03m. However, she failed to finish in the 100m hurdles final after clipping a hurdle.

Earlier, she scraped through the heats in the slowest time of the eight qualifiers.

Another Kingston and Polytechnic long jump medallist was David Cook, who took the bronze medal in the men's U23s event with 7.11m.

Herne Hill's Denise Osei just missed out on the gold medal as she was edged out in the U23 women's 100m final, where she clocked 12.12, the same time as the winner. Earlier, she was the fastest of the eight qualifiers, winning her heat in 12.08.

Herne Hill's Deli Onifade will make his international debut after he also clinched a place in the World Junior Championships team by taking the bronze medal in the junior men's 100m, finishing in 10.74. Onifade, who has improved his 100m best from 10.8 to 10.6 this season, has been included in the squad for the 4x100m relay.

St Mary's Richmond's Surrey champion Jo White was fifth in the junior women's 200m (25.02) after clocking 24.8 in finishing third in her heat.

Sutton's Kola Adodoyin was also fifth in the junior men's triple jump with 14.50m.
