Hounslow and District Wheelers' Midsummer Cup 25 was won in convincing style last Sunday by Rob Gilmour.

On a morning when the wind was strong enough to bend the trees over almost at right angles his time of one hour 52 seconds was good enough to put him nearly three minutes clear of the second fastest man, and give him the best veteran on standard award with a plus of 13:30.

The first handicap prize went to Andy Gilles, and Jo Wells was best female finisher.

It should be mentioned that David George, who took third place with a fine ride of 1:05:01, is making excellent progress this season. We expect to see him making an impact in open events in the near future.

In spite of the conditions eighteen Hounslow members faced the time keeper. The leading times were:

1. Rob Gilmour 1. 0. 52, 2. Rob Richardson 1. 3. 42, 3. David George 1. 5. 01, 4. Andy Gilles 1. 9. 03, 5. Neil Holdsworth 1. 9. 39, 6. David Brown 1.11.18, 7. Jo Wells 1.11.36.Paul Holdsworth has recently suffered a run of bad luck, puncturing in the Sharrow 50 last week, and in the Burton & District CA 100 the week before.

In spite of losing nearly 15 minutes in the 100, he still managed to get inside four hours for the distance. The fitness is there; surely fortune will favour him in the end.

On Sunday, the Wheelers host a 75-mile run to mark the club's 75th anniversary.

Lunch will be a Bramshill, with tea at the clubroom (Staines Sailing Club) after the ride.
