Staines entertained Oxted and Limpsfield on Saturday.

Despite wet weather leading up to the game the Staines wicket was firm and Oxted had no hesitation in electing to bat having won the toss.

Two early wickets put Staines in the driving seat as once again openers Bloomfield and Webber started well.

However a third wicket stand between skipper Trayner and Boxshall steadied the ship the former enjoying his fair share of luck on his way to 48.

Boxshall fell for a well made 64 and despite no other batsmen taking control the scoreboard ticked along in the face of for once some indifferent change bowling.

Oxted were dismissed in the 51st over but for 207 a more than competitive score.

Staines had bowled and fielded well enough, but without the edge that had been so present in previous weeks.

In reply and despite the loss of opener Mark Stevens, Staines started commandingly. Skipper Mullard once again let the attack but fell for just 28.

It was Adam Smith that was to take command. Smith made 63 but no other batsmen could hang around and support him and when he fell the door was open for the spin of Levine and Boxshall.

For the first time this season the Staines lower order failed to offer any real resistance and six wickets fell for just four runs.

Finally dismissed for 145 it had been a very disappointing day for Staines with the bat and somewhat of a wake up call.

Had Staines won it would have put them comfortably in second place, as it is they share this position with other teams.

Skipper Mullard said: "Having performed so well in recent weeks this one is a real disappointment but look results have helped us out and we're very much in hunt for promotion."

It was a welcome win for the 2nd XI away at local rivals Shepperton. Posting just 164 thanks to a combined team effort the Staines attack were brilliant in bowling out the hosts for 145. It was losses however for the 3's and 4's.

Sunday the 1st XI were involved in a 165 tie with visitors Acton in the Thameside Sunday League. The star for Staines was Sammy Webber with 71.

This week Staines entertain promoted Croydon MO.
