Carshalton boxer Lenny Daws is hoping he can put an injury nightmare behind him to kick start a make-or-break year for him with a showpiece fight in March.

The 29-year-old Morden-born fighter was forced out of a Friday's scheduled fight at Bethnal Green with a perforated ear drum - picked up in training a fortnight ago - and a bout of flu.

The Rose Hill ABC fighter's last bout was his draw with English champion Nigel Wright in November.

Wright's subsequent Commonwealth title defeat to Nigerian Ajose Olusegun earlier this month all but drew a line under his career.

Daws, who defeated Wright to lift the British title in 2006, now hopes to be on the undercard for Carl Froch's world super-middleweight title eliminator at the end of March.

And the Lightening, and his Morden Massive' fan base, admits it is now or never for his own boxing future - with potential opponents running scared.

"It has been a nightmare missing this one because training has been going so well," Daws said.

"This has got to be a big year for me. Colin Lynes may have to relinquish the British title back.

"I need something at the end of a fight to take into the next.

"If that doesn't happen I am not sure where I'll go.

"I suppose it is a good sign that no one wants to fight me. I am dangerous and they know it.

"It may be a case of taking on some foreign fighters just to keep me active."

A good showing at the ITV1-screened Froch clash in Nottingham could yet be the silver lining to an injury-scarred spell for Daws.

But, before that, the Morden mauler is hoping to get some top-class sparring in with WBC light-welterweight champion Junior the hitter' Witter - providing he can hear him coming.

"It is a big opportunity to get in the ring with Junior and I am really hoping the injury clears up," he said.

"It could take a week, it could take four, I just don't know.

"If it is worse than we thought, I might miss the March fight and then I really won't know where I stand."
