Thames Hare & Hounds' Naomi Warner was a comfortable winner of the women's race in the Sussex Beacon half-marathon in Brighton on Sunday.

Her time of one hour 18 minutes 33 seconds was 77 seconds outside her personal best for the distance, set when finishing fourth in the Bath half-marathon last March.

She won the women's race by more than three minutes.

Hercules Wimbledon's Steve Badgery produced probably the best performance of the race in winning the veterans over-60 prize in 1:23:10.

The former marathon international's performance took him to the top of this season's UK rankings for his age by exactly a minute.

Badgery also smashed his club's over-60 record of 1:31:42 set by Dennis Williams in the Paddock Wood half-marathon in Kent in April 2006.

It was Badgery's first half-marathon since 1998 when he set a club over-50 record of 1:17:07. He finished 40 seconds ahead of the top over-50 veteran in Sunday's race, in which he was 60th out of more than 3,700 runners.

Elmbridge Road Runners' Gavin Harkus also posted a personal best time for the distance of 1:17:49 in taking 12th place just ahead of Herne Hill's Ian Tivey (1:17:52), with Hercules Wimbledon's Stuart Fraser 15th (1:18:00).

Belgrave's Tom Hadfield was 31st (1:20:21), just ahead of Hercules Wimbledon's Deon Harrison (1:20:32). Clapham Chasers' James Ruane was 54th (1:22:45). Elmbridge Road Runners' Paul Rostern was 11th veteran (1:23:01).

Sutton Runners' Veronique Bringlow was second veteran woman (1:29:21), behind South London Harriers' Pippa Major (1:27:18) with Elmbridge's Dorothy Wilkinson third (1:29:05).
