Surbiton beat second-placed National Division One promotion hopefuls Team Bath Buccaneers 4-0 in a third mid-season practice game at Sugden Road on Sunday afternoon.
The visitors had issues getting their players to the game but, even so, it took the home side a long time to turn their better preparation into a goal.
And, when it came, it was from a surprising source, right fullback Chris Bowen, who popped up in the circle to reverse-stick sweep the ball high into the net.
A three-goal burst in nine minutes either side of half-time finally crushed the West Country visitors.
First, Tim Pinnock drag-flicked Surbiton's first penalty corner home a minute before half-time.
Then, two minutes after the restart, Pinnock pounced on James Mulcair's ball to get his second.
Six minutes, Mulcair coolly converted a second short corner to make it four.
Surbiton's league season resumes at bottom team Canterbury on Saturday week.
