West Byfleet U13 girls 1 AFC Walcountians U13 Girls 7

AFC Walcountians travelled to West Byfleet with the intention of maintaining their unbeaten start to the league season and retaining their position at the top of the Surrey County Girls Division One table.

They started brightly, putting West Byfleet on the back foot from kick-off and getting their reward for some enterprising play with a well-executed finish from striker Sian Payne.

They continued to press and were unlucky not to increase their lead when Hannah Rodgers let fly with a shot following a cleared corner.

Midway through the first half, Byfleet started to impose themselves on the game and following a period of sustained pressure scored a good equalising goal and then dominated the match up to half time but failed to add to their goal tally.

AFC Walcountians started the second half at a vastly increased pace, and with Sophia Horgan, Holly Murfitt and Sarah Lockyer outstanding in defence, they allowed the midfield, marshalled by Alicia Parrish to control the game and create a host of chances for their front players.

The incessant pressure eventually took its toll on the Byfleet defence and a flurry of goals for the Walcountians girls made the victory a formality.

The goal scorers in a one sided second half were Sian Payne (three), Georgie Coughlan, Megan Wood and Zoe Billing.

Despite twice coming back from a goal down, the boys found it difficult to control the game.

Despite the score, Sharks goalkeeper, Josh Grinter played really well and without him, the score could have been worse.

Harry Cooke returned to form and scored a couple of goals, his first of the season and this earned him the Sharks' man of the match award.
